Executive Summary

With more than 15 years of experience in state and local taxation, Matthew has served a broad range of clients in a variety of industries, with a primary focus on the technology and life sciences industry. He has spent part of his career with several Big Four accounting firms.
Matthew specializes in state and local tax provision review and related ASC 740 issues, and has extensive experience addressing complex multistate business restructurings that involve a wide range of income, franchise, and sales and use tax issues. He is also experienced with state income and sales and use tax corporate audits, acting as a liaison between the auditors and the client during the audit process. Additionally, he has drafted memoranda and practiced before the Massachusetts Appellate Tax Board. His responsibilities with BDO include the review of state income tax accounting issues, and researching tax laws, regulations, administrative rulings, publications, and case law for all 50 states.
Prior to joining BDO Matthew was the Worldwide Director of Tax and Treasury at two public companies--a software company and a pharmaceutical company, where he was responsible for all facets of the corporation’s tax function, including federal and international income tax, sales and use tax, state income and franchise tax, property tax, and credits and incentives.
