New York – June 29, 2016
— BDO Consulting, a division of BDO USA, LLP, one of the nation’s leading professional services organizations, today announced the appointment of Judy Selby
as Managing Director in the firm’s Technology Advisory Services practice. Ms. Selby brings more than 20 years of experience in insurance and technology to her new role, where she will provide guidance to organizations and their counsel on cyber insurance, cybersecurity, information governance, data privacy and complex insurance issues.
“The cyber insurance market has matured to a point where most organizations understand they have a need in this area, but are uncertain about how to make it work for them,” said Carl W. Pergola
, Executive Director of BDO Consulting. “Judy will play an essential role in helping BDO's clients better evaluate cyber risk and understand the value of their data assets.”
“The legal risks of using information extend well beyond the fallout of a data breach,” said Shahryar Shaghaghi
, National Leader of BDO’s Technology Advisory Services practice and Head of International BDO Cybersecurity. “In this age of connectivity, data is the new business currency. Judy’s 360-degree view of cybersecurity―from preparedness and protection to insurance and recovery―will be a tremendous asset to the team.”
“My new role at BDO provides an ideal platform for combining my extensive background in the insurance industry with my depth of knowledge in technology and information,” said Ms. Selby. “BDO’s holistic approach to complex business issues will allow me to amalgamate my experience across technology, eDiscovery, information governance and insurance—none of which should be looked at in a silo.”
Called "one of the premier voices in legal technology" by Legaltech News
, Ms. Selby has deep experience in coverage adequacy evaluation, international arbitration and all phases of insurance coverage litigation. Prior to joining BDO, Ms. Selby was a partner at Baker Hostetler, where she was co-chair of the Information Governance team and founder of the eDiscovery and Technology team.
Ms. Selby received her Juris Doctor from Brooklyn Law School and has completed courses on big data, the internet of things (IoT), crisis management/business continuity and cybersecurity at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She is the co-chair of the Claims and Litigation Management (CLM) Alliance Cyber Liability Committee and serves on the Law360 Insurance and Legaltech News editorial boards. She is also a member of the American Bar Association’s Big Data Committee and of NY Metro InfraGard, as well as an Advisory Board Member for Netswitch Technology Management, a security platform provider.
