BDO’s State and Local Tax (SALT) practice will present a compliance update focusing on unclaimed property issues. Presenters will review and discuss legislative, regulatory and administrative changes across the states including dormancy period, filing date, exemption and due diligence changes, as well as other compliance changes and notifications.  Presenters will discuss Delaware compliance reviews (started in late 2018), Illinois SB9 and Title 74 changes (adopted March 2019) and will recommend best practices for all filers and especially first-time filers.
Learning Objectives:
  • Review and discuss the unclaimed property compliance process including dormancy period, filing date, exemption, and due diligence changes.
  • Review recent state legislation updates pertaining to unclaimed property including Delaware Compliance Reviews, Illinois SB9 and Title 74, CH V Part 760 regulatory changes.
  • Apply successful unclaimed property best practices especially for first-time filers and filers with $0 returns, and recommendations for meeting new policy and procedures.
