The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has five areas of focus for exempt organization audits. A main point of emphasis is the tax gap, which refers to the gap between the amount of tax being reported and paid, and the amount the IRS asserts is properly owed. When it comes to the tax gap, the IRS has found that Unrelated Business Income Tax (UBIT) and employment taxes are fertile ground for collecting additional tax revenue.
