The Administrative Challenges of Receiving Federal Grants

According to its December 2013 survey, the Urban Institute’s Center on Nonprofit and Philanthropy found that nonprofits relying on Federal grants and contracts were struggling under the administrative burden imposed by the government on the funds’ use. Nearly two-thirds of respondents to the Urban Institute’s study indicated that they’d experienced difficulties with complicated application and reporting processes, and over half said that they’d had problems with government funds not being sufficient to cover program expenses.
