How Bundled Payments will Affect SNFs

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has announced that it will soon require bundled payments for hip and knee replacements, for all services provided between hospital admission and 90 days after discharge. This requirement may mean trouble for skilled nursing facilities (SNFs), particularly SNFs with only 1- or 2-star ratings, as careful hospitals will not likely give referrals to facilities that pose a risk to their reimbursements.
