How a Building Products Company Protected Itself from Recently Departed Employees

Background & Challenges

A publicly traded building products company needed support to conduct first-pass internal investigations into employees who leave the company for competing organizations.

Approach

BDO was hired by the CIO to develop a preservation playbook, collect relevant data sources from employees of a certain title/level, execute an early case assessment (ECA) review with standardized search protocol in Brainspace with the human resources, information technology and legal department teams, highlight key findings after forensic analysis, upon company confirmation - upload key findings into Relativity review and support outside counsel review. Forensic analysis declarations were provided as requested. BDO developed an employee case tracking system with case closeout protocols based on the findings of the ECA review.

Client Impact

BDO has executed more than 50 employee investigations and has supported the client with improved data collection response time with the information technology team, timely identification of potential data sources for new investigations, and enhanced compliance as it relates to records retention and destruction.
