BDO's Cathy Moy: Why BDO Is Joining the #AscendTogether Agenda

April 2020

At BDO, we believe a diverse workforce makes our firm – and the world around us – stronger. Teams that have a wide range of backgrounds and perspectives make BDO a better place to work and make us better at what we do.

That’s why today, BDO has joined 10 organizational partners and more than 90 companies in the #AscendTogether Action Agenda to promote workplace inclusion and address the adverse impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“As we work through the pandemic and look toward recovery, we cannot lose sight of the specific social and economic aftershocks impacting underrepresented communities,” said Cathy Moy, chief people officer at BDO USA, LLP. “BDO stands with the #AscendTogether consortium of organizational partners and companies to recognize all of our at-risk neighbors during this public health and economic crisis. Now more than ever, we must come together and collaborate to tackle the challenges before us.”

The #AscendTogether consortium stands to promote inclusion, raise awareness of the unique impacts of COVID-19 on vulnerable groups, denounce bias and support local communities. The co-signing organizations will advocate for members of underserved communities and pledge to combat stigma, including biases associating Pan-Asians with the novel coronavirus, and all forms of discrimination based on age, color, disability, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, national origin, race, religion, sexual orientation and veteran status.
Ascend, the largest non-profit Pan-Asian membership organization for business professionals in North America, created this consortium along with the Association of Latino Professionals for America (ALPFA), Catalyst, The Conference Board, Management Leadership for Tomorrow (MLT), National Association of Black Accountants (NABA), National Congress of American Indians, National Organization on Disability (NOD), Out & Equal and Tanenbaum.

As a long-time supporter of NABA, ALPFA and Ascend, BDO supports programs and initiatives to inspire, develop, engage and empower our people. “Helping People Thrive Every Day” continues to be our core purpose, which has taken on even greater meaning during this unprecedented pandemic. Our professionals continue to collaborate, listen and learn from one another – helping all individuals to #AscendTogether.
