With more than 27 years of healthcare, financial services, operational management, and restructuring experience, Patrick provides strategy, business transformation, interim management, M&A advisory, restructuring, turnaround, and performance improvement services to assist organizations and their stakeholders. Advising nonprofit, for-profit and public healthcare organizations on strategic, turnaround and performance improvement pursuits, he conducts operational and financial assessments, develops future state models and roadmaps, and implements alignment strategies across the continuum of care to improve quality and delivery. Patrick holds a B.S. in Accounting from Fairfield University and an M.B.A. from Columbia School of Business.
Steven Shill, CPA | Partner and National Leader – The BDO Center for Healthcare Excellence & Innovation
Steven’s experience spans over 25 years in public accounting, and clients include hospitals, health plans, specialty and primary care physician groups, surgery centers, urgent care centers and various managed care organizations. Steven obtained a Bachelor of Commerce Degree at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa and continued his tertiary education with an Honors Degree in Accounting Science at the University of South Africa in Pretoria. Steven also serves as BDO’s USA Partner liaison to BDO’s Global Public Sector industry.
Todd Berry, CPA I Assurance Partner & National Leader, Life Sciences
Todd has more than 20 years of experience auditing and advising middle-market, privately held, venture backed, and multi-national public technology companies. In addition to Todd’s experience providing professional services to such companies, he also spent several years in financial operating positions with two technology start-ups. Todd’s background includes significant experience auditing and advising companies in the area of revenue recognition, share-based compensation, pre-IPO planning, mergers and acquisitions, valuation issues, and complex equity and debt transactions. Todd holds a B.A. in Accounting from Bentley College.
Su Linna | Managing Director, Industry Specialty Services
Su has more than 25 years of drug, vaccine, and biologic development experience, 13 of them at a Fortune 100 pharmaceutical company and more than 13 in biotechnology. She has successfully managed product candidates from development through licensure. She specializes in building and leading portfolio, program, and project management departments for several biotechnology companies, and as a result of her leadership, several products were approved and licensed by the FDA and other stringent regulatory authorities. In 2018, she was named the STEM Champion for Women and Girls in Life Sciences by the National Association for Female Executives, for using her success in a science field to mentor, promote and sponsor women up the corporate ladder. Su holds a B.S. in Biology/Chemistry, an M.A. in Biology and an M.S. in Biostatistics from Western Michigan University.
Karen Meador, M.D., MBA | Senior Physician Executive & Managing Director – The BDO Center for Healthcare Excellence & Innovation
Dr. Karen Meador has more than 22 years of clinical and business experience within the healthcare industry and has served in numerous clinical and administrative leadership roles within academic health systems. She is experienced in providing innovative programs and services designed to transform clinical care, research, and education in the ambulatory and outpatient, emergency, and inpatient settings. Dr. Meador holds a B.A. from Rice University, an M.B.A. from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and an M.D. from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston.
Venson Wallin, CPA | Managing Director & National Healthcare Compliance & Regulatory Leader – The BDO Center for Healthcare Excellence & Innovation
Venson has about 30 years of experience in the healthcare industry, serving hospitals and health systems, continuing care retirement communities, nursing homes, academic medical centers, and physician groups. He works with healthcare organizations on enhancements to their financial and operational systems, as well as providing assurance on financial statements and internal controls in accordance with regulatory requirements. Venson holds a B.B.A. in Accounting from the College of William & Mary.
Janet Bliss | Partner – The BDO Center for Healthcare Excellence & Innovation
Janet has experience with a broad spectrum of physician groups including hospital-owned medical groups, single specialty practices, hospital-based practices, and independent physician practices. Her portfolio includes value-added management services like building and implementation of infrastructure; re-designing core operational areas to improve profitability and efficiency; development of governance models; operational and revenue cycle assessments. Janet holds a B.A. in Accounting and an MBA in Management from Dalhousie University.
Jim Watson | Partner – The BDO Center for Healthcare Excellence & Innovation
Jim has an extensive background working with health systems, hospitals, and physician networks on managed care and value-based contracting, with relevant experience in contract negotiations, contract implementation and contract management, as well as performance improvement. Jim led the development of several Chicago-area clinically integrated networks (CINs), including presentation of a CI program to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) in Washington, D.C. He holds a B.S. and MBA from Northern Illinois University.
Chad Beste | Partner – The BDO Center for Healthcare Excellence & Innovation
Chad is an astute veteran of the healthcare industry, bringing more than 30 years of experience to clients, advising and assisting health systems, physician practices, ambulatory surgery centers, private equity, and other healthcare providers such as skilled nursing facilities and home health agencies on emerging trends and related implications. He has been instrumental in helping healthcare providers achieve efficiencies and greater patient satisfaction through value-based care models, including bundled payments, patient-centered medical home (PCMH)-related models and accountable care organization (ACO) development, capitation, and provider-sponsored health plans. He holds a B.A. in Business Administration, Economics, and Psychology from Westminster College.
