Please join BDO Advisory for a complimentary breakfast seminar featuring continuing legal education. 

This session will provide insight into:
  • The reasons that certain types of financial statements are prepared and what they mean;
  • How an audit relates to detection of fraud;
  • The fundamental concepts used in accounting and what the numbers in the statements really mean;
  • The structure of financial statements and why line items are ordered as they are; and
  • Financial statement ratios, how to calculate them and what they mean.
The goal of this session is to provide attorneys with a better understanding of client financials, to be able to discuss the implications of financial statement changes, and to be more proficient at trial and in talking with clients relative to financial statement matters.

Heather J. Baranowski is a Managing Director in the Pittsburgh Office of BDO Advisory. She is a licensed Certified Public Accountant and received the designation of Certified Valuation Analyst from the National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts. She has been awarded both the Accredited in Business Valuation and Certified in Financial Forensics designations by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Ms. Baranowski has extensive experience in business valuation and litigation support, primarily as the issues apply in family law matters.

John Petrancosta is a Senior Manager in the Pittsburgh office of BDO Advisory. He has more than 20 years of experience in public accounting with extensive experience providing financial and forensic analysis, business valuations, litigation support, financial statement auditing, employee benefit plan auditing and administration and tax planning and preparation. Mr. Petrancosta is a Certified Public Accountant and has been awarded the Certified in Financial Forensics designation by the American Institute of Certified Public Accounts.
