Executive Summary

Jeff Bilsky is the technical practice leader for BDO’s national Partnership Taxation group. With more than 22 years of experience, he focuses on advising clients on the use of partnerships in operating businesses, investment fund structures, mergers & acquisitions, and business restructurings.

Examples of services include structuring and modeling partnership “Up-C” initial public offerings, leveraged partnership transactions, domestic and off-shore private equity funds, and complex partnership debt transactions. Jeff has extensive experience addressing complex partnership transactions including capital account maintenance, income/loss allocations, and liability allocations. He leads development of BDO’s capital account maintenance and income allocation tools.

Additionally, Jeff focuses significant time advising real estate investment trust (REIT) clients on matters including investment structure, acquisitive due diligence, and ongoing REIT qualification testing, as well as developing and implementing complex section 1031 like-kind exchange transactions.

Jeff chairs the tax technical committee of BDO’s national Real Estate industry group and regularly presents on partnership and real estate-related matters. He has presented at National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts’s REITWise Conference, the New York State Society of CPAs, CCIM Institute, the Tax Club, and Strafford Publications. Jeff has authored several external publications, including “An Alternate Route to an IPO: The Up-C Partnership Structure,” Parts 1 & 2, The Tax Advisor (Nov. 2015 and Dec. 2015).
