BDO USA, LLP Announces Leadership Changes for Assurance Business Line

Chicago, IL -- BDO USA, LLP, one of the nation's leading professional service firms, today announced that Christopher Tower has been appointed national managing partner for audit quality and professional practice.  Tower succeeds Chris Smith, who was recently appointed global head of audit & accounting for BDO International.  Joe Johnson, the current assurance managing partner in the firm’s Orange County practice, will succeed Christopher Tower as the West Region managing partner.  In their new roles, Tower will report to BDO USA CEO Wayne Berson and Johnson will report to COO Steve Ferrara.  These appointments are effective October 1.

Christopher Tower, who previously served on the firm’s board of directors and has served as a regional assurance leader for many years, has over 30 years of public accounting experience serving both privately and publicly held companies.  His broad experience includes auditing, ICFR attestation, technical accounting advisory, transaction due diligence, and other advisory services.  He has substantial experience in managing public offerings and private placements with significant engagements involving initial and secondary stock offerings and debt offerings, as well as securitizations. Over the past decade, Christopher has been an active member of the firm’s assurance committee, audit efficiency task force, audit quality committee and served as a strong advocate for audit quality in his role as liaison to national assurance.

Joe Johnson has more than 30 years of public accounting experience and has provided business consulting and assurance services to private and public companies. He has served clients in a range of industries, including consumer and retail, restaurants, life science, healthcare, manufacturing and distribution, and specialty finance. Joe is a member of BDO’s Board of Directors, where he chairs the Partner Matters Committee and serves as the Board’s ambassador to BDO’s Women’s Inclusion Network.
