Executive Summary

With over three decades of experience in state and local taxation, Matthew has served a broad range of clients in a variety of industries, with a primary focus on state tax minimization, restructuring and transaction support.

Prior to joining BDO, Matthew was the director of tax and treasury at two public companies where he was responsible for all facets of the corporations’ tax function, including federal and international income tax, sales and use tax, state income and franchise tax, property tax, and credits and incentives.

Matthew has extensive experience addressing complex multistate business restructurings that involve a wide range of income, franchise, and sales and use tax issues. He is also experienced with state income and sales and use tax audits, acting as a liaison between the auditors and the client during the audit process. Matthew has significant experience assisting both individual and corporate clients with the timely assessment and navigation of rapidly changing state tax policies and the tax implications of hybrid work models.

Matthew is the National Managing Principal of BDO’s State & Local Tax practice and the national tax leader for the technology industry group.
 
Matthew is a former Board Member for the Massachusetts CPA Society and an adjunct professor at Suffolk University Law School. He is frequently called upon for comment relative to state tax legislative proposals from local and national media outlets and works closely with members of the Massachusetts legislature relative to the Commonwealth’s tax profile.
