Tax Office Managing Partner; Technology Industry National Tax Leader
With more than 20 years of experience in state and local taxation, Matthew has served a broad range of clients in a variety of industries, with a primary focus on state tax optimization, restructuring, and transaction support.
Prior to joining BDO, Matthew was the Worldwide Director of Tax and Treasury at two public companies where he was responsible for all facets of the corporation’s tax function, including federal and international income tax, sales and use tax, state income and franchise tax, property tax, and credits and incentives.
Matthew has extensive experience addressing complex multistate business restructurings that involve a wide range of income, franchise, and sales and use tax issues. He is also experienced with state income and sales and use tax corporate audits, acting as a liaison between the auditors and the client during the audit process. Additionally, he has drafted memoranda and practiced before the Massachusetts Appellate Tax Board.
Matthew’s responsibilities with BDO include being the national tax leader for the technology industry group, where he helps clients navigate the rapidly changing tax policy landscape, from global reforms instigated by the EOCD to the tax implications of hybrid work models. Also, he leads the state and local tax function for the national Transaction Advisory practice and leads the tax practice for BDO’s Boston office.
