CHICAGO, MAY 29, 2025 – BDO USA, one of the nation's leading accounting and advisory firms, today announced the planned retirement of its Chief Executive Officer, Wayne Berson. Berson informed the firm’s Board of Directors of his intention to retire effective June 30, 2026.
BDO’s long-standing CEO succession process entrusts the firm’s Board of Directors with the selection of a CEO candidate for ratification by BDO’s principal group. The Board has begun this process and identified Matthew K. Becker, National Managing Principal of Tax, as the candidate to succeed Berson.
Over the next several weeks, Berson and Becker will hold a series of meetings with the firm’s principals prior to a principal-wide ratification vote that is expected to take place in July. Once a successor is agreed upon by a majority vote of the firm’s principals, the Board of Directors will announce the next CEO of BDO USA, whose term is expected to commence on July 1, 2026.
Berson has served as CEO of BDO USA since 2012. Under his leadership, the firm has grown nearly 400 percent, to annual revenues of approximately $3 billion. He oversaw BDO’s transformation from a partnership to a corporation then ESOP company, enabling all eligible employees to share in the firm’s growth and prosperity. Berson is a member of the BDO USA Board of Directors and serves as Chair of the Global Board of Directors for BDO International, Ltd. He will continue to serve on both boards until his retirement.
As National Managing Principal of Tax, Becker is responsible for the strategy and operations of BDO’s tax practice. He is a longstanding member of the executive leadership team and is distinguished by exemplary leadership and a deep commitment to the firm’s core purpose and values. Becker’s impressive accomplishments and unwavering character position him to sustain BDO’s growth trajectory while managing the complexities of a rapidly changing industry.
To ensure a thorough and unbiased evaluation period for BDO’s principal group, no further updates will be provided until the conclusion of the voting process.
