Executive Summary
Dustin is a Managing Director for BDO’s Washington National Tax office and leads BDO’s tax legislative affairs practice. His primary role is to follow tax law changes to help the tax practice and its clients understand the implications for tax planning. He prepares updates, insights, and technical analyses of legislative and regulatory developments, and regularly hosts virtual and in-person events.
Dustin has over 20 years of federal tax policy experience, and focuses on breaking down complex issues into practical insights and actionable opportunities for businesses and investors. Dustin regularly fields calls from reporters covering tax issues, and has been quoted in numerous publications, including the Wall Street Journal and New York Times. He has written articles on a variety of tax issues, and is frequently invited to present at the tax conferences of organizations such as the Tax Executives Institute and Association of International Certified Professional Accountants.
Before joining BDO, Dustin spent 17 years in Grant Thornton’s Washington National Tax Office. Dustin also spent four years on Capitol Hill as a reporter for Tax Analysts covering federal tax legislative developments and regulatory developments at the IRS and Treasury. He has technical experience across a broad range of areas, including energy credits, opportunity zones, excise taxes and credits, passive activity rules, the alternative minimum tax, and the net investment income tax.
