Managing Principal, Business Incentives & Tax Credits
Executive Summary
David is the Managing Principal of BDO’s Business Incentives & Tax Credits practice with over 20 years of experience advising companies on the strategic use of tax credits and incentives to enhance cash flow and reduce total tax liability.
He is widely recognized for his leadership in research and development (R&D) tax credits and energy-related incentives. Over the course of his career, David has led the identification and defense of billions of dollars in R&D credit claims, successfully guiding clients through IRS and state examinations and appeals. He also advises companies on complex federal and state energy and sustainability incentive opportunities, including tax credit transfers, calculations, documentation, and exam support in an evolving legislative environment.
His experience spans development-stage companies through multinational enterprises with revenues exceeding $20 billion across a broad range of industries. He collaborates closely with company leadership teams to align R&D credits, energy and sustainability incentives, capital investment credits, FDDEI planning, New Market Tax Credits, and accounting method strategies with broader tax and operational objectives — helping organizations improve capital efficiency and unlock meaningful liquidity.
Prior to joining BDO, David was a member of a Big Four R&D Tax Credit practice, where he focused on complex credit studies and tax controversy matters. He is an active contributor to BDO thought leadership and has been published in several industry and technical publications.
