Hoon Lee

Hoon oversees BDO’s Core Tax Services (CTS) across 10 offices in the west region. Prior to serving in his Regional Managing Principal role, he was the Tax Office Managing Principal for the San Francisco CTS practice for five years, and was the Regional Practice Leader of the firm’s R&D tax credit practice for nine years. 

Hoon has extensive experience in leading R&D tax credit engagements and managing R&D tax credit examinations with both the Internal Revenue Service (“IRS”) and state taxing authorities. He has successfully helped to identify and document over $200 million of R&D credit claims, including internal-use software and other contentious R&D credit claims.

Hoon’s deep technical experience coupled with his experience in interacting with the IRS and state taxing authorities have enabled him to sustain 100% of credit claims for numerous clients. Hoon has experience working with all industries, including:
