Steven has more than 20 years of public accounting experience and is the Co-Leader for BDO’s Healthcare Practice
. He has worked at two global accounting firms, serving both public and privately held companies, including nonprofits in the healthcare, finance and insurance, sectors. He also spent a number of years in private enterprise working as a senior manager for the actuarial and risk management subsidiary of a publicly traded multinational company.
Steven has extensive experience serving hospitals, health plans, nursing homes, physician groups, and other healthcare-related industries, including laboratories, urgent care services, surgery centers, dental groups, and behavioral health providers. Steven’s services to healthcare organizations include audits--including Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Sarbanes–Oxley (SOX) compliance audits--risk assessment consulting, financial feasibility studies, transaction advisory services, internal control reviews, and various other consulting services. He has also provided litigation support services, including serving as an expert on the Medicare Advantage Program. In addition, Steven has significant experience working with Knox-Keene-registered entities in California, as well as the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS) program.
Steven also serves private-equity-sponsored and venture-capital-sponsored healthcare clients and has developed a significant niche in this sector for BDO. He has performed financial feasibility studies for over $1 billion in debt financings and has provided assurance services to a significant number of clients in connection with initial public offerings (IPOs), secondary offerings and high-yield bond transactions. He is Yellow Book-certified to provide OMB A-133 and other governmental audits. Steven has also performed services for organizations operating under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, as well as for newly emerged entities.
Steven is an thought leader on a range of healthcare issues and is a member of the BDO Center for Healthcare Excellence and Innovation. His article titled “Reengineering the Health Care Turnaround Process” was published by the Journal for Corporate Renewal
. Steven routinely presents or participates on panel discussions on various healthcare topics, internationally, nationally and locally.
