Executive Summary

Laurie De Armond is the practice leader for the Nonprofit, Governmental, and Healthcare practice with BDO’s Assurance division in the Greater Washington, DC market, and has more than 25 years of experience in all phases of client service and accounting practices. She dedicates her time and extensive experience to auditing not-for-profit organizations in all subsegments, including colleges and universities, public charities, trade associations, social services organizations, and private foundations.

Laurie's experience in auditing and consulting includes serving a wide variety of tax-exempt organizations, including public charities, private foundations, trade associations, scientific and educational organizations, quasi-governmental, and governmental organizations, performing OMB Circular A-133 and program specific audits and auditing employee benefit plans including defined contribution, defined benefit, health and welfare, and single and multiple employer plans.

Laurie is a national co-leader of the BDO Nonprofit and Education industry group and the Greater Washington, DC managing partner for the Nonprofit and Education practice, helping to shape the strategic direction of the industry group for the firm and the local practice. She is a regular contributor to the industry group’s blog and quarterly newsletter, BDO Nonprofit Standard. She is a regular speaker at internal and external seminars on topics including accounting practices and internal controls of nonprofit organizations, governance issues, single and compliance audits, leadership development, and diversity and inclusion. She is a quest speaker for organizations such as the AICPA and the Greater Washington Society of CPAs.

Laurie has served on numerous boards of directors, including a local college and currently serves as a financial advisor for the audit committee of America’s Charities and is a member of the Financial Accounting Standards Board – Not-for-Profit Resource Group. She also serves on the Greater Washington Society of CPA’s Women’s Leadership Counsel.

Laurie was awarded one of the 2013 Women to Watch Awards by the Greater Washington Society of CPAs for her contributions to the profession. She is a member of the BDO’s Inclusion – Women National Strategy Team.
