Executive Summary

Jeffrey Katz is a Principal in BDO USA’s Forensics – Legal, Litigation practice and the Practice Leader for Post-Acquisition Disputes. He has more than 37 years of experience providing forensic accounting and litigation advisory services to attorneys, businesses, and individuals. Jeffrey regularly services as a neutral accounting referee/arbitrator, analyzes financial issues, prepares damage analyses, designs court exhibits, and provides testimony.

Jeffrey's experience includes serving as the neutral accounting referee/arbitrator in more than 150 post-acquisition disputes and advising dozens and dozens of buyers and sellers in these disputes. His post-acquisition dispute work includes the analysis and application of the terms acquisition agreements, evaluation of claims for breaches of representations and warranties, and the application of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). He is also regularly retained as an advisor and expert witness in lost profit matters including, but not limited to, breach of contract, the improper hiring of employees, business torts, and employee disputes. His other work involves forensic accounting analyses, investigation of allegations of fraud, and business valuation.

A Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Fraud Examiner, Jeffrey has provided opinion testimony on numerous occasions, including before the Delaware Court of Chancery, various Federal District Courts, U.S. Bankruptcy Court, various state courts, the American Arbitration Association, and JAMS. Accredited in Business Valuation and Certified in Financial Forensics from the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, he has presented on valuation issues to professional societies, on fraud issues related to investigations at hedge fund conferences and to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, to multiple law firms on minimizing post-acquisition disputes. Jeffrey has also published articles on key issues within the post-acquisition disputes arena.
