Artificial intelligence (AI) is transitioning from a strategic ambition to an operational reality for many organizations. Recognizing the complexities of this transformation, and inherent risks, a recent global survey targeted key industries leading the charge in AI adoption.
The goal of this research is to equip decision-makers with an understanding of both the risks and opportunities associated with integrating AI into the fabric of corporate life. BDO’s survey included 415 CEOs, CFOs, CIOs, risk leaders, compliance executives, and heads of legal around the world. They were asked what their organizations are doing related to AI strategy, risk management, privacy frameworks, and unsanctioned use of AI.
The survey focused on industries where AI is widely seen as a significant and disruptive force: manufacturing, healthcare and life sciences, retail and wholesale, as well as technology, media, and telecommunications.
63% of executives who responded to the survey have identified employee training and awareness as key to mitigating AI risks.
62% see the quality of data outputs being the key risk when using AI in their organizations.
72% of executives surveyed confirmed they either don’t have a data privacy compliance framework in place or that it is out of date and not maintained.
38% of those surveyed are taking additional data security measures to reduce AI risks.
38% of executives say their organizations have no AI development experience but still expect to develop their own AI platforms in-house.
7% of executives say their organizations have an up-to-date register of AI use.
1% of respondents say using AI creates no additional risks.
