Various compensation and benefits items have changed due to tax legislation known as the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA). Executive compensation programs, including equity awards, performance-based bonuses, deferred compensation, severance payments, and relocation packages are impacted, particularly for nonprofit and public employers. The tax treatment of fringe benefits such as meals, entertainment, and commuting expenses have changed, while tax credits for paid family leave and more favorable rules for retirement plans have been added. As the TCJA is light on details for implementing these changes, the Treasury Department and the IRS will play major roles through regulations and guidance. The presenters will explain the impact of the changes on employers, employees and plan participants.
