Executive Summary

Michael Fazekas is a Senior Manager in BDO’s Forensic Insurance and Recovery Practice. He has worked on some of the largest insurable and public assistance losses resulting natural disasters, including Hurricane Sandy, the Joplin tornado, the 2011 earthquake in Japan, the 2011 floods in Queensland, Australia, the Christchurch, New Zealand earthquake, and Hurricanes Ike, Katrina, and Wilma. He has assisted private, not-for-profit entities and state and local governments with receiving and managing funds for Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) flood claims and Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) grants, as well as with the monitoring of federal funding through sources such as FEMA, the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and various transportation agencies.

Mike assists clients in a variety of industries with disaster recovery and management of the insurance claim process. He has worked extensively with policyholders to develop claims management teams to respond quickly and effectively to crises, including working with an insurer’s consultants to facilitate the claims process for clients. He also has experience with a variety of other types of engagements, including business valuation, lost profits analyses, forensic accounting, strategic advising and complex insurance claims. Prior to joining BDO, Mike was a Manager at Ernst & Young, where he helped numerous clients reach settlements on insurance claims, including property, business interruption, extra expense and liability claims.
