Michael Mager is a Director in BDO Consulting with over 16 years of experience assisting clients with independent monitoring, accountants' professional liability, and corporate internal investigations and securities litigation matters involving accounting, auditing, and compliance issues. His experience includes analyzing complex financial accounting issues and irregularities focusing on the application of U.S. generally accepted accounting principles and evaluating accounting firms' compliance with U.S. generally accepted auditing standards, including expert witness services. He also provides monitoring and third party vendor oversight services to companies required to comply with settlement terms, corporate compliance programs, and service agreements.
Michael is currently assisting the Monitors overseeing the National Mortgage and JPMorgan RMBS settlements, and the JPMorgan Chase Bankruptcy Settlement in evaluating compliance with those settlements. He also led the teams validating the provision of consumer relief by two banks under amended consent orders with a bank regulator. Michael also assisted PNC Bank in evaluating its policies and procedures for compliance with regulatory requirements promulgated by Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, the Home Affordable Modification Program (HAMP), the Department of Veteran Affairs and the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Michael has also provided consulting services to the independent government regulatory body enforcing an action against former management of a government-sponsored mortgage finance company and has investigated allegations of financial fraud involving alleged improper accounting for derivative and financial instruments and earnings management.
