Executive Summary

Matt Riviello joined BDO from Deloitte, bringing more than 22 years of Big Four public accounting experience, including nine years as an audit partner. He has served clients in the life sciences and healthcare industries, including domestic and multinational public and nonpublic companies. Matt has deep knowledge of the life sciences industry and significant financial accounting and reporting experience, gained from leading audit engagements of emerging growth companies, as well as small to mid-sized companies and large accelerated filers.
 
His significant technical experience includes the requirements of Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) Section 404, Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) requirements, SEC preclearance matters and comment letter responses, multibillion dollar business combinations, complex revenue recognition matters, debt offerings, and strategic merger and acquisition transactions. He is also experienced with carve-out audits and financial statement preparation under Rule 3-05 of Regulation S-X associated with strategic transactions, audits of joint ventures and collaborative alliances, and has also served entities going through the initial public offering (IPO) process.
 
Matt has extensive knowledge of gross-to-net (GTN) and revenue recognition issues, including business implications, product life cycles (product launches and loss of exclusivity events), internal controls, and the projection process, as well as estimation of GTN rebates and discounts (such as contract discounts, Medicare, Medicaid, chargebacks, etc.).
 
A certified public accountant, Matt is also certified in International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and is designated as a Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA).
 
Matt has extensive experience in the life sciences and healthcare-related industries, including branded and generic pharmaceuticals, medical device manufacturers, health system providers, clinical research services and healthcare insurance.
 
As a frequent speaker at CBI conferences over the past several years, Matt has presented on various life sciences topics, including accounting hot topics and GTNs. He conducted one of the first sessions on health care reform (impacts from its inception through Managed Medicaid and beyond). He has also developed life sciences-specific training materials related to revenue recognition, GTNs and inventory that have been used to train numerous assurance professionals.
