Mark O’Rear is a managing director in BDO's Forensic Insurance and Recovery practice. He recently joined BDO with more than 23 years of Big Four accounting firm and independent consulting experience, including significant experience with first party business insurance claims. Mark has facilitated billions of dollars in recovery for insurance claims ranging from less than $1 million to more than $500 million. He has also given expert witness depositions and trial testimony in federal, state, and arbitration proceedings.

Mark’s insurance claims experience includes business interruption, property damage, extra expense, cyber/data breach, political risk, environmental, fidelity/employee dishonesty, third party liability, builder’s risk, and delay-in-start-up claims. He is experienced in claims-related to losses from catastrophic events such as those resulting from Hurricanes Katrina, Rita, Wilma, Ike, Sandy, Harvey, and Irma as well as losses from various floods, earthquakes, and other natural disasters.

Mark has been a frequent speaker on the topic of business interruption and property damage claims for organizations such as national Risk and Insurance Management Society (RIMS) and various local RIMS chapters, International Risk Management Institute (IRMI) Energy Conference, American Bar Association (ABA) Insurance Coverage Litigation Committee (ICLC), Worldwide Broker Network, Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriters (CPCU) Society, Energy Insurance Mutual (EIM), and various industry specific organizations. He has also taught course for his prior firms related to business interruption and property damage claims.
