Executive Summary

Marc Simon is a managing director in in BDO’s Forensic Accounting & Investigations practice. He is experienced in investigating bank compliance with mortgage servicing practices and has written expert reports on various accounting and auditing issues. Among other things, spanning a variety of projects Marc has been responsible for addressing issues related to sampling and the statistical validity of various sampling methodologies. Previously, Marc was technical director for global audit training for BDO International Limited where he developed audit training courses for BDO member firms worldwide. He was also part of BDO’s National Assurance Services Group where he dealt with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), and auditing issues that arose during engagements. He also prepared and delivered firm training on fair value, business combinations, goodwill and intangibles, and audit sampling. As a member of the firm’s editorial board, he participated in writing and reviewing many of the firm’s internal communications and external comment letters. He was also the U.S. representative on BDO International’s IFRS working party.

Marc was previously employed by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), first as assistant controller and then as a technical manager in Accounting Standards where Marc worked with the AICPA’s accounting standards executive committee on a variety of accounting standards setting projects, including the development of Statement of Position 04-2, Accounting for Real-Estate Time-Sharing Transactions. He worked with a task force to develop the AICPA practice aid Valuation of Privately-Held-Company Equity Securities Issues as Compensation. He also worked with the AICPA’s consulting services executive committee on the development of the exposure draft for the proposed Statement on Standards for Valuation Services, Valuation of a Business, Business Ownership Interest, Security, or Intangible Asset.
