Executive Summary

Joy Merriner has more than 14 years of public accounting experience, working on audits, consulting projects, and reviews for clients in various industries. She serves as a technical specialist on regulated operations and utilities, and is highly experienced with their financial reporting requirements. Joy is the audit lead for a diverse group of private companies, utilities and nonprofit organizations in Alaska with annual revenues ranging from $1 million to over $300 million.
Joy also serves as a focused consulting reviewer on audits in accordance with Government Auditing Standards (GAS) and state and federal Single Audits. She frequently provides training seminars for boards of directors on the areas of governance, internal control, fiduciary duty, and Single Audit requirements.
Joy began her career with the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston. Before joining BDO, she was in the consulting sector, working mostly with nonprofit organizations, state offices and granting agencies. Joy’s background gives her a unique perspective on business, the lending and banking environment, and the risks and opportunities that face her clients.
Joy is a frequent speaker at industry trainings and conferences, including the annual “Accounting and Finance Workshop” held by the Alaska Power Association. She also serves as a national trainer for BDO in the nonprofit industry. Joy is an Honorary Commander of the Air Force at Joint Base Elmendorf–Richardson in Anchorage.
