Executive Summary

Basil Karampelas is a Managing Director in BDO’s Business Restructuring and Turnaround Services practice. He has more than 25 years of experience in financial advisory services, including corporate restructuring, capital raising and merger and acquisitions (M&A) transactions. He provides financial, strategic and operational guidance to companies in the energy, chemical and renewables sectors. 
Basil has significant transaction experience, having worked with clients on buy-side and sell-side transactions, as well as on auctions out of bankruptcy, privatizations, joint ventures, joint development agreements, and private equity and venture capital investments. He has also served as interim CEO of Heliosphera, a leading European solar panel producer, as well as interim CFO of Green River Biodiesel, where he successfully took the company through Chapter 11. In addition, he has acted as a senior advisor to two Texas-based exploration and production (E&P) companies-- Black Elk Energy and Caltex Capital.
Prior to joining BDO, Basil was President and Head of Origination at American Process Inc., where he successfully executed the company’s first external capital raising and grew its staff of less than 25 employees to more than 120 in just three years. He also served as operating partner to a Connecticut-based hedge fund for portfolio companies in the energy sector, leading several successful turnarounds, including an emergence from Chapter 11 and subsequent asset sale.
Previously, Basil held leadership positions at BP, Enron and Koch Industries. He began his career as an investment banker in the energy sector, working at both Salomon Brothers and Wasserstein Perella.
