For the 10th Consecutive Year, Working Mother Names BDO USA, LLP as one of the 100 Best Companies

CHICAGO, September 15, 2020Working Mother today named BDO USA, LLP as one of the 2020 100 Best Companies, marking the 10th consecutive year that BDO USA has been recognized. Additionally, the firm was named to the magazine’s 2020 Best Companies for Dads list. This year’s listed companies were awarded for their focus on inclusive benefits for families. At BDO, this includes parental and adoption leave as well as accessible, affordable back-up dependent care.

“While this year has been particularly challenging, especially for working parents, I have been inspired by the commitment and creativity our working moms and dads have demonstrated as they navigate new challenges in their professional and personal lives,” said BDO Chief People Officer Cathy Moy. “While it is always an honor to be recognized by Working Mother, this year I am especially proud of the workplace flexibility and family-friendly policies and programs BDO has put into place to support all our professionals. This 10th consecutive year of recognition by Working Mother is a true testament to BDO’s long-standing dedication to the wellbeing of our working parents and the firm’s early acknowledgment that parental and family support would be fundamental to our growth and resilience.”

Additionally, the firm is proud to announce experienced assurance senior Makayla Bradford and assurance director John LaFramboise as BDO’s 2020 Working Mother and Working Dad of the Year. Makayla and John embody BDO’s core values through their dedication to professional excellence and work+life fit, going above and beyond to help their families and their teams thrive every day.

“BDO’s commitment to workplace flexibility drew me to the firm,” said Bradford. “That commitment has never been more needed by our teams. During COVID-19, I’ve had greater flexibility in my day to schedule ‘meetings’ with my daughter for playtime or meals together. This way she knows she is my priority, allowing me to be a great mom and a great team member.”

“My wife and I are proud parents to 10 children; I recognized the importance of prioritizing, being flexible and setting clear boundaries, so I made the decision to reduce my weekly work schedule,” said LaFramboise. “Thanks to BDO’s family-friendly policies, I have had the opportunity to advance my career while also spending more time with my family. In this way, I can ensure I am home emotionally and mentally, not just physically, when the workday is over.”

Building a culture in which all are empowered to advance and succeed is core to BDO’s purpose. Supportive programs, policies and resources allow our professionals at all levels to build their schedules in a way that enables them to be their best selves in both their professional and personal lives. These efforts are visibly championed from the top of the organization. According to the firm’s most recent pulse survey, 94% of BDO professionals believe that leadership is supportive of flexibility.

“Our 100 Best Companies are the standard of excellence and continue to pave the way with the work they are doing on behalf of working parents and caregivers in the US,” says Subha Barry, president of Working Mother Media. “These companies were well ahead of the curve when it came to supporting their employees during this time of vast change with their family-friendly policies already in place. We celebrate their efforts and applaud them for addressing the needs of this important and ever-growing sector of talent.”

ABOUT THE METHODOLOGY

100 Best Companies:
The 2020 Working Mother 100 Best Companies application includes more than 400 questions on leave policies, workforce representation, benefits, childcare, advancement programs, flexibility and more. It surveys the availability and usage of these programs, as well as the accountability of the many managers who oversee them. All applicants receive feedback showing how they compare with other applicants; however, the names of applicants that do not make the list are kept confidential. Company profiles and data come from submitted applications and reflect 2019 data.

Best Companies for Dads:
This year, for the first time, the Best Companies for Dads was offered to companies as a separate initiative for which they had to apply. The previous two years, Working Mother Research Institute had pulled out responses pertaining to dads from the 100 Best Companies application. The organizations listed here received the highest numbers of points in the survey about dads, which included questions on parental leave, childcare, adoption leave, fertility benefits and employee-resource groups for men and working parents
