Chicago, IL — BDO USA, LLP, one of the nation’s leading professional services organizations, today announced the appointment of Brad Murlick as managing director in the firm’s Forensic Insurance & Recovery practice.

Mr. Murlick has more than 30 years’ experience advising domestic and global organizations on the preparation, negotiation and settlement of claims associated with catastrophic and other triggering events. At BDO, he works closely with organizations to assist with timely and successful claims resolution, having facilitated billions of dollars in recoveries. He has advised on complex claims related to property and business interruption, fidelity and employee dishonesty, political risk, construction and builder’s risk, cyber and product recall. At BDO, he focuses primarily on organizations in the natural resources, manufacturing and distribution (including food and beverage), agribusiness, pharmaceutical, gaming, hospitality and leisure, and healthcare industries.

Before joining BDO, Mr. Murlick held several senior executive positions in business insurance advisory practices at Navigant, Deloitte and Peterson Consulting. It was during this time that he developed his practice, concentrating on complex claims and in recent years, has had increasing opportunities to assist companies with product recall and cyber claims.

Mr. Murlick’s appointment is a move by BDO to bolster its client offerings around the preparation, negotiation and settlement of claims associated with catastrophic events—whether man-made or caused by Mother Nature. His skillset will sharpen BDO’s ability to help clients continue to mitigate new risks around the cross-industry proliferation of emerging cyber risks.

“Organizations across industries are coming to depend on more partners across the supply chain continuum to create efficiencies, provide better services to their end users and in some cases, boost product safety,” said Clark Schweers, leader of BDO’s Forensic Insurance & Recovery practice. “With greater innovations come increased risks around supply chain and business interruption, product recall and third-party vendors. Brad’s diverse experience mitigating those risks across a wide range of industries boosts BDO’s capabilities in helping clients protect their assets in the event of a triggering incident.”

“Technology and supply chain innovations are evolving the nature of business interruption, and insurance has had to evolve with it,” said Mr. Murlick. “The collaborative approach at BDO means the team leverages knowledge and resources in technology, cybersecurity and risk management to collectively address complex claims and mitigate business interruption. Clients are better protected when the professionals serving them are all driving the bus in the same direction."

Mr. Murlick has worked with global clients ranging from Fortune 100 to smaller, privately held companies. He has worked on matters related to the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks and numerous engagements resulting from major natural disasters. He also advises and consults with clients facing third party claims, and advises insurance brokerage clients in defense of error and omission (E&O) insurance matters that involve property and casualty disputes and litigation. He has testified both at arbitration and in federal court. Mr. Murlick received a Master of Business Administration in Finance from Michigan State University and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Michigan.
