Building Relationships with the Association of Corporate Counsel

A proud 2015 Platinum Sponsor of the Association of Corporate Counsel Greater New York Chapter (ACC-GNY) with over 1,700 in-house counsel members, BDO is providing value-added advisory guidance including discussions and training on proactive services related to risk mitigation and compliance that help counsel manage their roles more effectively. In addition to hosting an ACC-GNY Board of Directors meeting and wine tasting networking event for members, BDO recently presented on “Minimizing Disputes in International Contracts” at a full day CLE event on July 22 at the Metropolitan Club. BDO will also be hosting a CLE presentation on cross-border and global regulatory issues at an exclusive event in September.

Exploring Hot Topics

BDO Consulting also recently chaired American Lawyer Media’s Annual General Counsel Conference in New York, presenting on a range of topics, including  Big Data, Small Steps – Applying Analytics across Litigation and Investigations; An In-House Counsel’s Guide to Fraud Investigation: 30 Years on the Front Lines; and Applying Analytics to Your Organization’s GRC Strategy. BDO Consulting Managing Directors Nina Gross, Karen Schuler and Julia Bailey from our Washington, D.C. office, who work with counsel on information governance, anti-corruption, compliance and investigation services attended.
“We continue to work with in-house legal departments on managing risk and addressing compliance requirements,” said, Karen Schuler. “Listening to last year’s feedback, we tailored our discussion topics to address proactive mechanisms that counsel could leverage to manage risk and respond to issues related regulatory challenges.”

Providing Perspective

And speaking of counsel - attorney, turned marketer BDO Consulting National Marketing & Business Development Leader Julie Chodos spoke to legal marketers about how to engage with clients and manage teams to maximize revenue. Hosted at Wiley Rein’s Washington, D.C. office last month by the Legal Marketing Association’s Capital Chapter and the D.C. Chapter of the Association for Accounting Marketing, the panel “Selling Professional Services: Marketing Leaders Discuss Competitive Advantages” was moderated by Zuckerman Spaeder LLP and included co-panelists from Worldwide ERC and Gensler.

BDO Sponsors CalCPA Education Foundation 2015 Women’s Leadership Forum

BDO was a proud sponsor of the CalCPA Education Foundation 2015 Women’s Leadership Forum. The Forum, which is designed for women in the accounting profession interested in enhancing their leadership development and professional growth, took place on April 24 in San Francisco and featured sessions on building relationships, workplace behavior, developing professional goals and nonprofit board participation, as well as a lunch presentation for the Women to Watch Awards. The conference also provided ample networking opportunities and a bonus session on networking to build your business.
“As one of the members of the Women’s Leadership Forum planning committee, I was honored to be able to contribute my time to developing such an insightful and informative event for my peers in the accounting profession,” said Senior Manager, Becky Yang O’Malley.
Other BDO Participants included Director of Talent Acquisition, Stephanie M. Polon, who presented on “Building an Inclusive Workplace”, and Director, Darleen Armour, who attended the conference to network and share insights with her peers.
“The CalCPA Women’s Conference was well worth the trip up from LA,” said Darleen. “I met many phenomenal women, heard from experienced and insightful speakers, and took back with me several ideas and tools to put into practice within my own office and with my own team.”
