Stephen McElfresh is the principal and founder of HR Futures®, a consulting firm addressing the people issues of fast-growth companies. HR Futures helps fastgrowth companies attract, develop and retain top employees and advises mature companies on applications of human capital measurement, analytics, and creating a data-driven HR culture. Previously, Dr. McElfresh was the chief people officer for New Relic, a fast-growth software analytics company that went public in 2014. Earlier, he was President and CEO of Saratoga Institute, then acquired by PwC. Dr. McElfresh has also served as the chief people officer for Exponent, SRI International, and Friden Alcatel.
Dr. McElfresh is a member of the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM), the Academy of Management, Society of Psychologists in Management, the Forensic Expert Witness Association (FEWA), and the American Psychological Association. He has written editorials for the Silicon Valley Business Journal and has been interviewed for the Washington Post and HR Magazine. He was a charter member of the SHRM national panel for Human Capital Measurement and HR Metrics, and a member of the Investor Metrics Workgroup of SHRM.
Dr. McElfresh earned a Ph.D. in organizational psychology from Boston College and a JD from the Santa Clara University. Dr. McElfresh taught at the Boston College School of Management and the University of Massachusetts. He has served on the Boards of Directors or Advisory Boards of the Pacific Graduate School of Psychology, UC Santa Clara HR Management Program, FEWA and the Bay Area Organizational Development Network. He is Past President of the Bay Area HR Executives Council.
