Communicating assertively, particularly when delivering sensitive messages, can be challenging.  Often, many of us fall in to the traps of using passive language, or steeling ourselves for the conversation and projecting aggression instead.  In this session, you’ll learn how to walk the line of assertive communication by first learning the key concepts involved in communicating assertively, and then practicing these techniques through small group role plays.

Specific topics to be covered include:
  • Describe the facets of assertive communication
  • Contrast assertive communication from passive as well as aggressive communication
  • Describe the voice tone, pacing, use of silence, and language involved with assertive communication
  • Given a sensitive message, deliver said message  assertively through a role play
