Wittenstein North America Drives Quality and Innovation with Data

About WITTENSTEIN North America:

WITTENSTEIN develops customized products, systems and solutions for highly dynamic motion, maximum-precise positioning and smart networking for mechatronic drive technology.

For nearly 25 years now, WITTENSTEIN Inc. has supported the U.S., Canada and Mexico with solutions that embody the excellence and integrity that defines WITTENSTEIN. The North America headquarters in Bartlett, Illinois houses our executive, sales, engineering and technical support teams, as well as our technical center for machining, assembly, testing, service and inventory of products.

The state-of-the-art machines and technical capabilities at this facility allow us to support WITTENSTEIN worldwide with mechatronic projects that integrate motors, gearboxes and controls.

Not ‘Boiling the Ocean’

WITTENSTEIN’s head of IT, Holger Beuschlein, has taken a pragmatic approach to Industry 4.0 roadmap implementation, while remaining laser-focused on the company’s objectives for efficiency, growth, and profitability.

We moved first to bring existing data we could trust into Power BI to create visualizations our management team could use. We’ve capitalized on early success here to create new KPIs for financials and quality that we didn’t have before.

-Holger Beuschlein, IT Manager, WITTENSTEIN North America

Building on Success

WITTENSTEIN continues to leverage data from multiple sources in new ways ranging from operational analytics supporting month and year end financial processes, to new quality KPIs for test-bench operations, pass/fail analysis, and trending.

We are constantly gathering data to feed our KPIs and provide better visibility to internal quality, sales, production, and other areas. We’ve learned a lot about our business and the things that affect our manufacturing process. There is also a higher level of awareness throughout the organization of data integrity, which has highlighted to us the importance of governance strategy.

The Future Holds Great Promise

The WITTENSTEIN team will continue to use the momentum they’ve built toward expanding current initiatives and deploying new capabilities such as:

  • IoT – more direct data from machines
  • Streamlining the flow of data between production and assembly – replacing manual processes
  • Forecasting – getting more predictive and prescriptive with production scheduling
  • Sales – predicting needs for specific product lines, and churn analysis
