Green Thumb Gets a Boost to the Cloud

Green Thumb Gets a Boost to the Cloud

An Illinois-based company in the consumer services industry was struggling with an aging IT system that was slowing down their operations and putting them at risk for security issues. The company’s 200 employees provide residential and commercial lawn care nationally, and while they have a green thumb with plants, the cloud was out of their realm of expertise.

Partnering to Modernize

The company engaged BDO Digital to help them leverage the cloud and estimate the total cost of ownership (TCO) for a move to Microsoft Azure. Starting with a cloud roadmap, the BDO team developed a discovery, design and deployment plan for modernizing the company’s environment.
The plan included:
  • Exchanging 2008 r2 and 2012 migration to Azure
  • Zayo datacenter migration to Azure SQL server
  • LOB application migration to Azure
  • Upgrading Office 2016 to Microsoft 365
  • End-User Training
  • Providing Service Desk and Cloud Managed Services

Results and Benefits

Investing in the cloud has enabled the company to accelerate their business and remain competitive. Maintaining their databases in the cloud optimized the performance and stability for a key line of business applications, allowing for faster and more efficient operations. The move to Microsoft 365 has improved their communication and collaboration capabilities not only to their corporate team, but to their 70+ franchises owned around the United States.

Additionally, as a BDO Digital Managed Services client, the company can now evolve alongside technology, leveraging what will work for their specific business needs over time. With monthly advisory meetings, they are updated on their environment, cybersecurity, and how to optimize their cloud spend in real time.
And one of the biggest benefits was one that was virtually unseen – as no one noticed the move to the cloud. The business saw zero disruption during the migration, allowing for employees to continue with business as usual.
