Chicago, IL – BDO USA, LLP, one of the nation’s leading professional service organizations, today announced that thirty-four of its offices have been recognized in 2011 with the Alfred P. Sloan Award for Business Excellence in Workplace Flexibility. Sloan awards are presented to companies that successfully use flexibility as part of an effective workplace strategy to achieve business goals and benefit employees by helping them meet their responsibilities on and off the job. This is the third consecutive year that more than 30 of BDO’s offices have been honored with this prestigious award, which is part of the national When Work Works project.
When Work Works is a national project to educate the business community on the value of workplace flexibility by sharing research and promising practices, and conducting the annual Sloan Awards. It is an ongoing initiative of Families and Work Institute first funded by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. In 2011, the Society for Human Resource Management and FWI formed a ground-breaking, multi-year partnership to grow When Work Works and help businesses become more successful by transforming the way they view and adopt flexible workplaces.
"We are thrilled to once again be recognized by the When Work Works project for our workplace practices," said Jack Weisbaum, CEO of BDO USA. "The Sloan Awards are especially gratifying because they emphasize an employee survey as a major part of the evaluation process."
The two-step selection process for the award is rigorous, involving an evaluation of employers’ programs and practices, and a confidential employee survey. As a recipient of the 2011 Sloan Award, BDO ranks as one of the leading employers nationally in terms of its programs, policies and culture for creating an effective and flexible workplace.
In addition to the Sloan Awards, during the past year, BDO USA has been named one of the 2011 Best Companies by Working Mother magazine and one of the 2011 Best Places to Work for Recent Grads by Experience, Inc., a leading provider of career services for college students and alumni.
The following is a list of the BDO offices that were recognized with the Sloan Award: Atlanta, Austin, Bethesda, Boston, Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas, Detroit, Grand Rapids (2), Houston, Kalamazoo, Las Vegas, Long Island, Los Angeles, Memphis, Miami, Milwaukee, Nashville, New York, Orange County, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Raleigh, Richmond, San Diego, San Francisco, San Jose, Seattle, Spokane, West Palm Beach, Westchester, Woodbridge and the National office (Chicago).
When Work Works is a leading national initiative to help businesses of all sizes and types become more successful by transforming the way they view and adopt effective and flexible workplaces. When Work Works is one of the foremost providers of rigorous research and employer best practices on workplace effectiveness and flexibility in the nation, and administers the prestigious Alfred P.
