This presentation will consist of a moderated panel discussion spotlighting practical experience and viewpoints that build upon the concepts outlined in BDO’s updated Audit Committees in the Ever-Changing Marketplace publication. Specifically, the panel will feature audit committee chairs, an attorney and an audit engagement partner, all of whom have considerable and varying industry experience, who will provide their unique perspectives and respond to questions on the WHOs, WHATs, WHYs, WHENs and HOWs of forming and running effective audit committees.

Learning Objectives
After completing this program participants will:

• Recognize key attributes for WHO should comprise a balanced audit committee
• Understand the WHATs with regard to general and specific responsibilities of an audit committee
• Recognize WHAT the audit committee’s role is in the oversight of risk and management’s assessment of internal control
• Understand WHY the audit committee’s role in the prevention, deterrence and detection of fraud is so critical
• Determine WHEN an audit committee should meet throughout the year and HOW to best utilize that time
• Understand HOW an audit committee charter should be structured and utilized
• Identify “red flags” in considering transparency and meaningfulness of financial reporting to be determine HOW an audit committee should govern and respond to issues
• Recognize additional available audit committee resources
